17 de Diciembre // 17th December

Hola!! Ya estamos a mediados de este mes y esta es mi primera entrada de diciembre porque no he tenido tiempo antes. Tengo un montón de cosas que contar jajaja, y prometo que durante las vacaciones escribiré más que tendré más tiempo.
A principios del mes, he ido con mi familia de acogida a comprar el árbol de navidad, y este año va a ser el primero que voy a tener un abeto de verdad, y no uno de plástico. Lo hemos decorado y me gusta mucho como ha quedado. También hemos puesto luces y cosas fuera de casa para decorar y está muy bonito. Además, estos días ha estado nevando bastante y todo esta súper blanco y las luces de las casas resaltan y todo es precioso.
Durante este mes, he tenido una fiesta de navidad con mi coordinadora y una fiesta de navidad en el colegio.
La fiesta de mi coordinadora estuvo divertida, tuvimos que hacer una comida típica de nuestro país, y yo hice churros con chocolate que a todo el mundo le gustaron. También, nos dieron gorros de Papá Noel y tuvimos que escribir "Merry Christmas" en nuestro idioma, en mi caso "Feliz Navidad".
Para la fiesta del cole nos tuvimos que vestir bien, pero no era algo muy importante. Esta fiesta era solo para estudiantes de grado doce y estudiantes internacionales.
También, esta semana nos han dado las sudaderas del colegio. Compré una hace un tiempo y las han repartido esta semana. Es roja, pone RHS (Riverview High School) y es muy calentita así que me gusta para el invierno jaja.

Hello!! We are more or less at the half of this month and this is my first entry in this month because I didn't have time before. I have lot of things to tell you hahah, and I promise that I will write more during the holidays that I will have more free time.
At the beginning of this month, I went with my host-family to buy the Christmas tree, and this is the first year that I will have a real tree instead of a plastic one. I have decorated it with my host-parents and I really like it. Also, we have decorated the outside with lights and it looks very pretty, because it has been snowing for the past few days and the lights stand out, it is beautiful.
During this month, I had a Christmas party with my coordinator and a Christmas party in the school.
The party with my coordinator was very fun, we had to do a typical dish from our country. I did churros with chocolate and everybody liked them. Also, my coordinator gave us Santa hats, and we had to write on them "Merry Christmas" but in our language, in my case "Feliz Navidad".
For the party in the school, we had to dress up nice, but it wasn't something very important, because it was only for grade twelve and international students.
Also, this week I got the sweater that I bought a few weeks ago in the school. It is red, it says RHS (Riverview High School) and it is very warm, so I like it for the Winter hahah.

13 de Noviembre // 13th November

Holaa!!
Esta semana he hecho un montón de cosas y además ha sido mi cumple :)
He tenido mucha suerte porque el 11 de Noviembre, es Remembrance Day y por lo tanto no hay cole y pude celebrar mi cumple.
Cuando me levanté mi host-mum y mi-host sister habían hecho cinnamon rolls (rollos de canela) para desayunar.
Después de desayunar pasé la mañana en casa con la familia y comimos pizza. Cuando terminamos de comer fui a patinar con los internacionales y fue muy divertido. Al terminar el patinaje, me montaron en el coche y me pusieron un pañuelo en los ojos para que no pudiera ver a donde me llevaban. Cuando llegamos al sitio me quitaron el pañuelo y todos los internacionales y algunos canadienses estaban en Boston Pizza. Fue una sorpresa jajaj.
Cenamos en Boston Pizza, y cuando terminamos los camareros vinieron cantando Happy Birthday (cumpleaños feliz), me recordó mucho a algunos cumpleaños que he visto en el restaurante Friday's que hay en España. Me trajeron hasta una tarta jajaj. La tarta fue lo más gracioso porque mi familia de acogida me llama Luli porque no pueden pronunciar mi nombre real. En la tarta, pusieron HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOURDES (LOULEE), y eso fue muy gracioso.
Pasé un día genial, y además mi familia de acogida y mis amigos me dieron una tarjeta de felicitación.

Hoy he recibido un paquete de mis padres de España y eso me ha hecho mucha ilusión :). Me han enviado dos libros como regalo de cumpleaños, una sudadera que no pude traer de España porque no había espacio suficiente en la maleta y polvorones y turrón de Navidad para compartir con mi familia de aquí.

También esta semana los coordinadores nos han llevado a todos los internacionales a hacer curling. El curling es un deporte que consiste en deslizar una roca lo más lejos posible, y hay dos personas que tienen una escoba y tienen que "barrer" el hielo para que la roca llegue más lejos. Antes del curling, paramos en una feria del hockey que había. Fue muy divertido, me lo pasé muy bien.

This week I have done lot of things and also I had birthday :)
I have been so lucky because the 11th of November is Remembrance Day so I didn't have school and I could celebrate my birthday.
When I woke up my host-mum and my host-sister made cinnamon rolls for breakfast. After breakfast I stayed at home with my host-family and we had pizza for lunch. When we finished eating I went skating with the internationals and that was really fun. When skating was over, my host-dad gave me a handkerchief to cover my eyes and like that I couldn't see where we were going. When we arrived I took the handkerchief off and I saw all my international and Canadian friends in Boston Pizza. It was a great surprise hahah.
We had supper at Boston Pizza, and when we finished the waiters came singing Happy Birthday, it reminded me a lot of some birthdays I've seen in the restaurant Friday's that is in Spain. They gave a cake, and that was the most funny moment, because my host-parens call me Luli because they are not able to say my real name, and in the cake they wrote HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOURDES (LOULEE) hahah.
I had a great day, and also my friends and my host-family gave me birthday cards.

Today, I have recived a package from my parents in Spain and that made me very excited :). They have sent me two books as a birthday present, a sweater that I couldn't bring from Spain because I didn't have space enough in the suitcase, and polvorones and Christmas nougat to share with my host-family.

Also, this week the coordinators planned an activity for the international students. We went curling! Curling is a sport that consists of slide a rock as far as possible, and there are two persons with a broom to "sweep" the ice to make the rock get further. It was very fun. Before curling, we stopped at a hockey event that was going on I had a really good time :)

Holaa!!
Este fin de semana ha sido genial. El sábado fui al Cabot Trail con mi familia de acogida y con la hija de mi host-mum, y por lo tanto las otras dos internacionales.
Fue un día muy largo, nos tuvimos que levantar a las seis de la mañana porque hay dos horas de coche hasta el Cabot Trail, y cuando llegamos pues hay que conducir hasta los sitios. Es como un recorrido.
El Cabot Trail es un sitio precioso, es todo naturaleza ya que está situado en las montañas. Hay un montón de casitas y el paisaje es muy bonito, si vas en otoño todo está lleno de hojas rojas y amarillas que se han caído de los árboles, y si vas en invierno seguro que todo está cubierto de nieve y es bonito igual.
Lo que yo hice fue ir por todo el recorrido, vi las casitas, la mayoría de los valles, dos playas y una parte de la ruta que lleva al mar.
Si vienes a Canadá, te recomiendo que visites el Cabot Trail porque de verdad que merece la pena.

El domingo, quedé con todos los españoles que hay en la isla ya que algunos vuelven ya para España a finales de este mes. ¡Además, nevó! tuvimos la primera nevada en noviembre jaja, así que ya viene el frío de verdad (ayer había -7 grados).

This weekend has been awesome. On Saturday I went to the Cabot Trail with my host-family and with the daughter of my host-mum, so the other two internationals came too.
It was a long day, we woke up at six because we have to drive two hours to get to the Cabot Trail, and when we arrive we have to drive to the different places. It is like a route.
The Cabot Trail is beautiful, everything is nature because it is in the mountains. There are lot of houses and the landscape is very pretty, if you go in Autum everything is covered by the red and yellow leaves from the trees, and if you go in Winter everything will be covered by snow, it will be beautiful anyway.
I did the route, I saw little houses, most of the valleys, two beaches and part of the path that goes to the sea.
If you come to Canada, I recommend you to visit the Cabot Trail because it really worthwhile.

On Sunday, I met all the Spanish students that are in Cape Breton, because some of them are leaving at the end of this month. It also snowed! We had the first snow in November haha, so the real cold is coming (the temperature yesterday was -7 degrees).

Ya dos meses aquí y ayer fue Halloween!

Celebrar Halloween aquí en América ha sido genial.
Ayer quedé con todos los internacionales y un montón de canadienses para hacer truco o trato por una de las urbanizaciones más grandes.

Como española que soy, yo pensaba que con una bolsa me iba de sobra, pero mi host-mum me preguntó “¿Cuántas bolsas llevas?” y al decirle que una se empezó a reír y me dijo que con una no era suficiente, así que salí de casa con cuatro bolsas que es lo que según mi host-mum está bien. Al final resultó que era cierto, con cuatro bolsas grandes llenas de chuches volví a casa. Esta es la primera vez que consigo tantas chuches en Halloween jajaj.

Para hacer truco o trato nos dividimos en pequeños grupos y yo tuve la suerte de ir con un amigo que lleva viviendo en Canadá tres años así que el sí que sabe a dónde hay que ir a pedir chuches jajaj.
Mi grupo era de siete personas así que cada vez que llamábamos a las puertas y nos preguntaban “¿cuántos sois?” y decíamos que siete las familias siempre nos decían que somos un grupo grande de “treaters” y nos daban muchas chuches.
Fue una tarde muy entretenida y me lo pasé muy bien. Esta ha sido la primera vez que he hecho esto, me gustaría en España también se celebrara Halloween así jajaja.

Two months here and yesterday was Halloween!

Celebrating Halloween here in America has been awesome.
Yesterday I met all the internationals and lot of Canadians for trick or treating around one of the biggest neighborhoods.

 As I am Spanish, I thought that with one bag was enough, but host-mum asked me “how many bags are you taking?” and when told her that I was taking one she started laughing and she told me that one wasn’t enough, so I finally went with four bags that my host-mum gave me. She was right, I went back home with four big bags full of sweets and chips. This has been the first time I get this many sweets in Halloween hahaha.

For trick or treating we divided in little groups and I was really lucky because I was in the same group as a boy that has been living here for three years so he knows where is better to ask for sweets hahah.
My group consisted of seven people so every time we knocked on the doors the owners asked “how many are you?” and when we answered that we were seven they said “you are a big group of treaters” and they gave us lot of candy. It was an amazing afternoon and I had a very good time. This has been the first time I do this, I really would like to do this in Spain too haha.
