Holaa!!
Vuelvo a escribir ahora que he encontrado un hueco jajaj.
Hoy es el cumpleaños de mi host-sister (Gesa) y hemos hecho un montón de cosas.
Cuando nos levantamos, mi host-mother había hecho tortitas y magdalenas de arándanos (que estaban muy ricas) para desayunar, y luego a lo largo del día le estuvimos dando muchas sorpresas a Gesa.
Por la tarde había un partido de hockey así que todos los internacionales y algunos canadienses habíamos quedado para ver el partido, pero Gesa no lo sabía así que le pusimos un antifaz y la montamos en el coche. Cuando llegamos al estadio se emocionó al vernos a todos juntos esperándola para ver el partido con ella.
Cuando el partido terminó fue muy gracioso porque nosotros íbamos a ir a Boston Pizza para cenar allí, pero como ella no lo sabía pues se despidió de todos, y de nuevo con el antifaz al coche. Cuando llegamos a Boston Pizza y nos vio a todos otra vez ya si que se rio bastante jajjaja. Fue un día muy divertido, os dejo fotos por aquí...

Hellooo!!
I write now that I've found time hahah.
Today is my host-sister's birthday (Gesa) and we have done lot of things.
When we woke up my host-mum did pancakes and blueberry muffins (they were very very good) for breakfast, and then we did lot of surprises for Gesa.
In the afternoon there was a hockey game so all the internationals and some Canadians met to see the game, but Gesa didn't know that so we gave her a mask and we drove her to the stadium, but she didn't know we were going there. When we arrived she was so excited because she didn't expect us there waiting for her.
When the match finished, it was so funny because she didn't know that we were going to Boston Pizza to have supper, so she said good-bye to eveybody and then we went to the car again and of course she was wearing the mask. When we arrived to Boston Pizza she saw us again and she laughed a lot hahah. It was a really nice day, I post some pics for you....

Hola de nuevo!!
Vuelvo a escribir ahora porque estos días he estado liada con cambios de asignaturas y con el curso de orientación.
Hoy escribo sobre mi curso de orientación. El objetivo de este es que todos los internacionales de la zona se conozcan, se hagan amigos y pasen un buen rato.
El curso me encantó, fuimos todos los internacionales de Cape Breton a un college y pasamos allí el día entero. En el autobús íbamos todos muy ilusionados, y además como viajábamos con internacionales de otros coles pues se nos hizo corto el viaje ya que estábamos haciendo nuevos amigos durante el camino. Al llegar nos dieron una mochila con una camiseta un gorro de invierno y unas cuantas cosillas jajja. Una vez que estábamos todos nos dieron las habitaciones, y la verdad es que tuve mucha suerte porque me toco con una española y dos italianas que van a mi cole y por lo tanto ya nos conocíamos.
Después de cenar hicimos unas actividades que estaban muy divertidas, nos enseñaron el baile típico de Cape Breton, nos enseñaron la ropa que visten los escoceses e incluso se la pusieron a unos compañeros, y también nos enseñaron una canción en escocés.
Al terminar estas actividades tuvimos una especie de disco y nos lo pasamos muy bien. Os dejo aquí algunas fotos con mis amigos :)

Hi again!!
I write now again because I've been really busy with course changes and with the orientation course.
I'm going to write about my orientation course today. The aim of this course is to make all the internationals of Cape Breton know each other, make friends and have fun.
I loved this course, all the internationals fom Cape Breton went to a college and we were there one day. In the bus we were all very excited and the way wasn't so long becuse we were with internationals from other schools so we made friends while we were on the way to the college. When we arrived the NSIP workers gave us a bag with a t-shirt, a Winter hat and other little things hahha. Also, they gave us our room number and I was very lucky because I was with another spanish girl and other two italian girls that are in my school in the same room.
After supper we did some activities that were really good. We learnt the Cape Breton's dance, we saw the scotish clothes and they put them to one of my friends and also we learnt a song in scotish.
When we finished this activities we had a disco and we had a great time. I leave some pictures with my friends here :)

Al día siguiente hicimos actividades por grupos, teníamos que hacer diferentes "retos" y el grupo que ganara ganaba un premio sorpresa. También, nos han dado un pasaporte en el que tenemos que poner una foto cada mes, y en cada mes te pone que tienes qué hacer. Por ejemplo, este mes toca "take a picture with your host family" (hazte una foto con tu familia de acogida).
y después de esta orientación todos para el cole jajaj. Fue muy divertido :)

The next day we did activities in groups, we had to complete different "challenges" and the group who finished the first won a prize. Also, we got a Passport in which every month we have to put a
picture, each month has to be something different. For example, this month we have to take a picture with our host-family.
After the orientation we went back to school. It was a nice experience hahhah.

 

Además, hoy también he ido a ver un partido de hockey. Este era el primero de la temporada, así que el estadio estaba muy lleno, pero mis amigos y yo tuvimos mucha suerte porque los asientos que teníamos asignados estaban todos en la misma zona. Esta vez perdimos (3-2), pero el domingo hay otro partido así que a ver si ganamos jajja. Os dejo fotos del partido...

Also, today I've been in a hockey game. This has been the first one of the season so the stadium was really full, but my friends and I were lucky because all our seats were together. This time we lost (3-2), but on Sunday there's another game. Hope we win on Sunday hahah. I leave some pictures here...

Bueno, después de estar aquí dos semanas he aprendido varias cosas sobre Canadá. Por ejemplo, cuando te despides de alguien aquí la gente no dice "bye", aquí dicen "see you" porque están seguros de que van a volver a ver a esa persona. Aquí no hay un sturbucks, hay un sitio que se llama Tim Hortons que es prácticamente lo mismo, las cosas están muy ricas y es mucho más barato que el Sturbucks jajajaj. También mis amigos canadienses me han dicho (y se puede comprobar), que los billetes de Canadá están hechos con las hojas de los maple tres (arces), si coges un billete canadiense y frotas en la hojita transparente el billete huele a maple. Me quedé sorprendida con eso jajaj.
Otra cosa importante es que aquí cuando compras algo hay unas tasas de compra, dependiendo de lo que compres son más o menos altas, generalmente no son muy altas, pero es bueno saberlo.

Aquí obviamente también voy al cole y la verdad que es muy diferente comparado con el mío en España. Un día antes de que empezara el cole mi padre adoptivo nos llevó a mi y a mi host-sister al colegio para elegir las asignaturas. Como aquí hay dos semestres tienes que coger cuatro asignaturas  por semestre, y esas cuatro asignaturas las tienes todos los días pero van cambiando de orden a lo largo de la semana. También es importante saber  que contenidos hay en las asignaturas porque aquí el nivel es diferente y he tenido que coger algunas asignaturas de un nivel superior al que me corresponde.

Además aquí hay que cambiar de clases, el profesor no viene a tu clase. Tú tienes que ser responsable de asistir a tus clases. Otra cosa importante es que los libros del cole son muy gordos y pesados, por eso es bueno tener una taquilla para coger los libros que vayas necesitando y sobre todo la taquilla tiene un buen uso en invierno, ya que puedes dejar tu  abrigo y todo lo que no necesitas durante las horas de clase y lo recoges al salir del cole. Las taquillas en mi colegio son bastante grandes, por lo que estoy compartiendo una con mi host-sister, normalmente los alumnos tienen que pagar 15$ canadienses para tener una, y al final del curso te devuelven 5$ canadienses, pero como mi host-sister y yo somos alumnas internacionales nos han dado una taquilla gratis jajaja. También, es muy importante hacer amigos canadienses, porque en Canadá a partir de los 16 años se puede conducir, y si tu familia no puede llevarte a un sitio por cualquier cosa si tienes un amigo canadiense que tenga licencia este te puede llevar. Normalmente mi familia me lleva a los sitios, pero hubo una vez que le tuve que pedir a una amiga que me llevara al campo de futbol porque mi familia estaba muy ocupada.

Por cierto, aquí los alumnos tienen que llevar su comida de casa al colegio, cada alumno hace su comida en casa y tus padres adoptivos te ayudan obviamente, pero tienes que ser responsable de tu comida y por su puesto de tu ropa y tus cosas, ya que la lavadora la pones tú (o al menos así funciona en mi casa de acogida).

También, es muy importante decir las cosas si te parecen raras, yo de momento no he tenido problemas con mi familia y espero no tenerlos, pero es importante que si algo te parece raro lo digas, porque si es realmente un problema y te está haciendo pasarlo mal puedes pedir un cambio de familia y te cambian. Para este tipo de cosas yo tengo una homestay coordinator (coordinadora de casas de acogida) y si tengo cualquier problema se lo tengo que comunicar a ella.

After two weeks here I have learnt lot of things about Canada. For example,Canadians don't say goodbye, they say see you because they are sure they are going to meet each other again. In Canada they don't have Sturbucks as in Spain, they have something similar that is called Tim Hortons, it is really good and it is cheaper than Sturbucks hahahah. Also, my Canadian friends told me that the banknotes are made with maple leafs, if you take a Canadian banknote and you rub in the transparent leaf, the banknote smells like maple (you can prove it). I was surprised with that hahah.

An important thing is that when you buy something here you have to pay some taxes, they are higher or lower depending on what you buy. Usually they are not very high, but it's good to know about it.

Obviously here I have to go to school too and the truth is that it is really different compared with my school in Spain. The day before the classes started, my host-dad took my host sister and me to the school to pick up the courses. Here there are only two semesters (not three terms), so I had to pick four courses for each semester. During each semester, you have the four courses everyday, but they change the order along the week. Also, it's important to know the contents of each course, because here the level is different and I had to take courses from  an upper grade than the one I belong to.

The classes here don't work as in Spain. You have to go to your classes (each teacher has its own room), the teacher doesn't go to your  class. You have to be responsible to assist to all your classes.
I want to point out that the books here are really thick and heavy, so I recommend you to have a locker where you can leave your books and just take the ones that you need for each class.  Also the locker has a good use in Winter because you can leave there your coat  and all the things you don't need during the school time and then take them with you before going home. The lockers in my school are really big, so I'm sharing one with my host-sister. Usually, students have to pay 15 Canadian dollars to get one and then at the end of the year the school gives you 5 Canadian dollars back, but for  all the international sudents the lockers are free hahah. Also, it's very important to make Canadian friends because in Canada when you are 16 you can get your driving licence and as your host-family is not your taxi, if they are busy you can ask a Canadian friend for a drive. Usually, my host-family drives me to all the places I want, but there was one occasion that I had to ask a friend for a drive to the soccer field because my host-parents were really busy.
Here, the students have to prepare their own food for the school. Obviously, my host-parents help me, but you are responsible of your food for the school and of course your clothes and your things because you have to make your laundry by yourself (at least that's how it works in my home).
Also, if you notice that something is weird you have to say it, for now I didn't have any trouble with my family and I expect to don't have any, but it is really important to say if something is weird, because if it is really a problem you can ask for changing your host-family and the people who works with this program will change you. For this things, I have a homestay coordinator so if I have any problem with my family I just have to tell her.

Yo estoy en Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, aquí todo esta rodeado de agua ya que es una isla, pero es precioso.
Cuando llegué aquí todo fue muy emocionante. Mi familia de acogida me recogió en el aeropuerto y de verdad que son súper majos, me dieron un cartel de bienvenida y una bandera de Canadá.

Después, mis padres de acogida me llevaron a su casa (que es mi casa de acogida mientras estoy aquí). Al llegar a la casa me enseñaron todo y en mi habitación había una cestita con regalitos para mí, eso me hizo mucha ilusión.
Con esta familia he hecho un montón de cosas: me han enseñado a hacer mermelada, me han llevado a ver un partido de hockey en el cual jugaban los Eagles (es el equipo de aquí), me han dejado una guitarra, he ido a una playa...
Como veis aquí siempre estoy haciendo cosas así que ya iré subiendo fotos y seguiré contando mi experiencia aquí. cuando tenga tiempo jajajaj.

I'm staying in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Cape Breton is an island so everything is surrounded by water but it's beautiful.
When I arrived here it was amazing, my host family was waiting for me at the airport and they were really kind, they gave me a big poster (the one that is in the picture) and a Canadian flag.
After that, my host parents drove to their home (that is going to be my host home while I'm here). Once in, they showed me all the house and there was a little basket with presents for me, that was really nice from them.
With this family I have done lot of things: they showed me how to do jam, my host-dad took me to the Eagles stadium to see a hockey match (The Eagles is the hockey team from Cape Breton), they have lent me a guitar, I have been in the beach...
As you see I'm always busy, so I will post pictures and new entries about my experience here when I find time hahah.
